BMW World

Thanks to Nic (@blackawfee) who told me about BMW World, I managed to check out some really cool BMWs and 1 concept car. Apparently I missed one classic BMW concept as well. For those who don't know BMW stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. BMWs are really fantastic cars and i have always admire it's design and safety standards.

One Day On Earth: Singapore - 10.10.10

This was my contribution to the One Day on Earth project. The idea was to document anything on the 10th of October 2010 - 10.10.10. I missed Barcamp Singapore 6 to document this day in life of singapore.

I started in Changi east where you can see the planes land to the Marina Barrage where you find loads of people getting married. The unique professional kiters in Sengkang and then back to the city for the grand finale. Do leave me a note if you enjoyed the little video. Libraries: the last frontier of digital information

In today's age of digital information and information collection dominated by search engines like google and bing and social networks like Twitter and facebook, there isn't really anything we cannot learn. Due to the exponential growth of the Internet and thanks to creative individuals, retrieval of information has boiled down to how well you define search engine terms.

Being a librarian when I was in primary school back when, I have always surrounded myself with books and find the best section of the library to hang out and well let's just say some alone time. But I digress. I always believed that libraries were all about information and all about books. I would probably still have that same impression if Liana (@spoonrabbit) has not convinced me otherwise.

I was actually very impressed by the what Liana does and the department she is in. This is like 'Q's' office in MI5. Highly experimental, sophisticated and cool. Liana spoke about the projects that the library undertakes to further the purpose and cause of the library. Like building a mobile library and experimenting into having library kiosks near MRT stations.

But today they have launched yet another first in the business of libraries. A Facebook app. Enabling the library to make use of social networks to propagate importance of having books and making it easier for it's patrons to borrow, finding and reserving books. With the integration of social networks, they give the users the ability to recommend them to their friends. Not unlike what amazon has done with selling books.

The National Library of Singapore in itself is very advanced and has services that are very relevant to today's digital world. They have ebooks, searchable books index in their databases, video content, archives of newspapers and news surrounding Singapore and these are the only things I know about. Now they are engaging the community through social networks. I see that this is one of the most advanced libraries in the world and it's not surprising that the habit of reading books is still being instilled here in Singapore. Access to these information are readily available.

That's why I think librarians (that includes all those who work in the library) are one of the coolest and most advanced people on earth. Besides they have access to all those information.

[Analysis] iPhone 4 Plans in Singapore

Cheapest iPhone 4 with a Contract Plan

M1 has the cheapest for Tier 1 Pricing and with the most value. The difference is about S$130 from SingTel's Plan. All the telcos provide 100 - Minutes of Free Voice Calls. The SMS are the same at 500 free SMS for all the Telcos and so is the Broadband on all the telcos which offers 12Gb of Data. Both the 16Gb version of the iPhone 4 and the 32Gb version is the lowest in M1.

Mid-Tier Plans

They are tied between M1 and SingTel. Both the plans and pricing are exactly the same however the differentiator is that M1 provides 100 more free voice calls minutes and than SingTel, otherwise the SMS and Broadband are the same.

Free iPhone 4

You know that this is a gimmick right? The total investment that you pay eventually are about 5 times more. But if you plan to get it anyway, the cheapest is M1. It is about S$150 cheaper.

If you for some reason plan to go for a tier 3 plan. As you can see the cheapest of the 3 is SingTel. My advice is to look at your voice and SMS usage and see which is worth it for you. Inclusive of the plan I feel that Tier 2 32Gb iPhone 4 is the best value. With 12Gb of data, you don't really finish all of that per month and i have a 90% data usage on my iPhones.

There you go my quick analysis of the iPhone 4 Plans for SingTel, StarHub and M1

Nurturing Social Media - A Twestival Experience

Nurturing your social awareness through social media

View more presentations from Michael Foong

This presentation is for IDA's Building Vibrant Online Communities Event held today 7th June 2010. You can tell if a person is long winded just by the title of the presentation which incidentally is "Nurturing Your Social Awareness Through Social Media - A Twestival Experience". I could have gone with "Nurturing Social Media is like dating 1064 people at the same time" but that's just me. So I am going to share a little of what happened on Twestival but most importantly what we learnt and what social media can potentially achieve in a given situation.

Enjoy the presentation.
