Qwiki Alpha: A Quick Look

This is what I love about Qwiki, it is an autonomous wiki or Information browser. At it's current form all it does is search for the Information you want and then plays it back to you using a Visual and an Audio guide. They retrieve related images/videos and the text related to the topic you have just searched compile it into a flash like player that is beautifully arranged.

Although it still have some information or visual guide that are misplaced or misrepresented but remember this is in alpha stage and I believe they are still tweaking their engine to make it more accurate.

If you have watched the Movie by Disney/Pixar Wall.E you find this familiar to the last few scenes of that movie when the captain of the Axiom went to the computer and asked it to define earth. A plethora of images and video then appear on screen and a voice over explaining to the captain what it is. Well Qwiki is the beginning of the quest to automate these information bites.

I started with the customary Define: Earth tribute to Wall.E and then go on to define places like AIA or AI. Actually I accidentally typed this cause I wanted to type Asia. Well it's safe to know that there isn't a million people supporting Qwiki in the background answering your question. I am very positive that this is automated.

The other thing i notice very quickly is that, it understands that you have asked about locations and it will always bring up a map showing you where things are in relative to the world. I tried that with AI, ASIA, Singapore. I have also noticed that they are able to look up alternative spelling for the topic or other names. I tried this with Churros (plural) and Mezze which Qwiki detected as Meze. I even tried using the term Kancil or Mouse Deer at first I thought Qwiki got it wrong by telling me it's a Chevrotain but it's actually the proper name for the mouse deer. Well you learn something new everyday. Oh and the word Kancil never came up a single time. So it must have some extensive library and catalogues of words and related words and meanings.
