ETMS (Efficiencies that makes sense): The Hong Kong Immigration Arrival/Departure Card
As a frequent traveler across Asia Pacific, this is the best Immigration Arrival/Departure card i have seen any country do. I might be wrong but I have traveled to Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, India, Japan, China and today Hong Kong. Currently, there is still a difference between China and Hong Kong and I am glad for the dual-government structure they are practicing right now.
Here is what I noticed and what other countries can learn from this:
1. Make it small enough to fit your passport. This is the first thing I notice, Its really a a great form factor. The text space is very well designed where its not too small for you to write in the information. If I can draw a comparison, this is the Twitter of Immigration Arrival/Departure card.
2. Its carbon copied. This is so great! This has been my rant for the longest time. I have been complaining about the need to write your name up to 3 times in most Arrival/Departure cards. 1 for Arrival, 1 for departure, 1 for Import Declaration. With the Hong Kong Immigration Arrival/Departure card you only need to write your information ONCE! Let me repeat ONCE! This is really COOL! Finally someone has done something right. You have to sign the form twice, but that make sense I guess.
Great job Hong Kong!
